Career Blog Post: Video Game Designer

The career I chose to look into is a video game designer. The responsibilities of this job are to create the core vision, rules, and entertainment of the game through defining the game mechanics, story, and characters. A designer should compile this information into Game Design Documents for teams to build upon and collaborate with. The credentials that are required for this job include a bachelor's degree in game design or computer science, a strong portfolio of personal or collaborative projects, relevant skills in programming and art, and practical experience from internships or game jams. College majors for this job include game design, computer science, software engineering, graphic design, animation, and digital arts. Colleges that offer good programs are University of Southern California, New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, and University of Utah.
