Awareness Post: Cecily Brown

Cecily Brown is a British painter who is influenced by contemporary painters to create her paintings that hold an energy that feels alive and complicated and overall visually interesting. Her art style is a mix of gesture and abstraction; she adds figures with the strokes of abstraction and some realism added or implied. She utilizes numerous expressive and vibrant colors in her pieces that add to the effect of over expression and messiness. She rarely leaves blank spaces in the background and fills the canvas with intentional and visually interesting strokes that truly make the piece united and whole. One of my favorite pieces of hers is "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," because it feels so fulfilled and the colors go so well together that it adds to its allure and desire to know more about the piece and the meaning.

I like how the color scheme works really well together, the lime green is especially my favorite as I feel it adds so much vibrance and expression into the piece. I think this piece is really powerful in its meaning and expresses the theme really well. I appreciate her complex composition and having something in every corner of the piece, it really adds to the unity and pulls it all together.
